Just a quick note to let "everyone" know that i'm still here. I'm working on new additions to my internet presence, while also working with Dell's tech support to get my XPS 400 desktop replaced (it just died...they've already sent me a new motherboard, powersupply, heatsink...still busted).

i would agree that that is a good guess except that for the first time in my life, i have a computer with well designed airflow (BTX is a thing of beauty) and it didn't have so much as a dust bunny in it. besides - its in the basement (where the cat isn't allowed) and on a table (not the floor).
I really have no idea what could have fried it.
I just hope i get a good system as a replacement.
They just told me it will take 10-20 days for me to get the replacement though :-(
